AMEN BROTHER!!!! This video has helped me in oh so many ways. I’m a “rookie intermediate” bass player. I’ve only been serious about playing since the beginning of the year. I’m 46 years old and I’ve been dabbling with the bass since I was in high school. I play with a group and your videos show me how to expand my playing. You’re a Godsend brother and I appreciate you.

    Hi Alex,
The information was very helpful. I am like most seasoned bass players, I find it very hard to find time to practice when you face job dead lines, and in some cases have to play to make ends meet. Practice (did some one say practice!!) – There is no time. When the word gets out that you rocked the house at the last concert, and your talent is in demand. With less time on your hands, your trying to digest and recall what you just digested at the same time. You cram patterns like a mad man, playing them over, and over again. You stay up late at night to finish that last report to keep your boss off your butt and learn that last lic. I truly believe to maximize your learning curve; you must have a workable method in your head or a short sheet that you can apply to any musical situation. If you do not have either, your talents as a bass player will be no longer in demand, and you will not grow as a musician.

AMEN, Alex. This video answered a question I’ve been asking for “years”. Everyone wanted to tell me the theory and have me figure it out, but I’m a positional player. This will open up my playing so much more. Thanks and God bless!

    1. alexsampson Avatar
      alexsampson

Hey CRM glad to be helpful – And I think sometimes educators can forget that theory is just a way of describing how something works… As such the same thing can be described in many different ways some of which work better for others… Glad this way works for you…

I’m dig’n this stuff. I play with some bone headed, gifted players who believe that if it doesn’t come naturally then your not a player.

Not true,I’ve been trying to play Bass for sometime but,I need simple tech with understanding. I love this because my aim is to be able to play simple lines when i’m in Africa to help with my ministry to west Africa, after all everyone loves music,so do I, love man, blessing my brother.

Alex, you’re a great teacher. Down to the bone, no B.S.
Basics is what it’s all about. You make the basics sound great with the simple little adds.
I have a couple of your courses. I play mostly by ear, can read a little but not fast enough to do a job. I figure out what it should be and then play my version.Started in ‘1958’, played everything even upright in a big band. I’ve been playing for more than 50 years, still playing and the best part is, I’m STILL LEARNING FROM YOU. You make it understandable and easy.
Thank you and ‘amen’ to you brother.

Another winner Alex! Sometimes simplicity works best in explaining new concepts. In this way, there will be no confusion and one can learn the full intent of the basic concept without problems. Once the basic foundation is laid down and established, the road ahead becomes the superhighway to excelling in the art of bass playing. Great job!

I purchased a beginner course from you about 2 weeks ago. It’s very good. I read a lot of mixed reviews about you on TalkBass Forums. The more mature sounding people seemd to not mind how you market your products and how you write. The younger guys (many of whom never tried your stuff) seemed to have all kinds of issues with you.

Let me just say I have no problem with the fact that you are an internet marketing expert as well as a great bass player. I found the 50 bucks I spent on your course to be well worth it. Since then I received 2 fantastic videos (this one included) for which I have not paid you a penny.

I hope you don’t change a thing about how you market, what you charge, how you teach, your attitude, your generosity or anything else. I greatly appreciate your approach to teaching. I think your prices are a value compared to the knowledge you deliver. Thanks for the freebies and keep them coming please.

Hey Kev, thanks for the support my man – Believe me, loudmouthed trolls who talk about stuff outside of their experience have absolutely no weight whatsoever in my world. To me it’s as pathetic, like guys who have opinions on cars they never drove or sports they never played. But we’re gonna keep talking good care of our customers and continue to provide top notch value to our community, so glad to hear from you! Thanks for having our back!
